Au Pair working conditions * Geneva guidelines
The canton of Geneva defines Au Pairs as people between the ages of 18 and 25/30, who help
a private family with household tasks on a part-time basis in return for food, lodging and
pocket money, with the intention of studying French.
Working hours 30 hours per week maximum.
Study At least 4 hours of French classes per week.
Day off At least one day and a half off, in principle Sunday.
If Sunday is not possible, a replacement day
may be given during the week, but at least two
Sundays free per month are Mandatory.
Holidays 20 years and younger : 5 weeks paid per year.
21 years and older : 4 weeks paid per year.
The meals which cannot be taken at the family’s
home during the holidays are reimbursed in
accordance with the AVS guidelines.
Pocket money SFR. 780.— (about Euro 480.--) per month
This amount is adjusted every year with the last
November Geneva Price index. Board and lodging
in a private room are included.
